Mandragola Act V

Group: QIJIE.MO , Douglas Goon,..

Summary:   Callimaco gets his night with Lucrezia.  And he told Lucrezia the whole plan. Lucreiza accepted it ….  In the end of the play , Callimaco has the object of his desire whenever he wants, Nicia will no doubt have an heir, Lucrezia has a new love, and Timoteo has his money and the satisfaction of knowing that
he outsmarted everyone else

Act V: Scene 4(pg. 56)
“‘Since you’re cunning, my husband’s stupidity, my mother’s foolishness, and the wickedness of my confessor have led me to do what I would never have done of myself, I’m ready to believe it was heaven’s will that it should all happen this way, and I don’t have it in me to reject what heaven wants me to accept.

-In this quote, Machiavelli shows how Callimaco interprets that Lucretia has fallen for him. It also brings about God being a strong figure back in the 1500s. Lucretia citing to heaven’s will is an indication of her honoring God by following his ways. It’s basically an internal battle between her morals and what God thinks is right. Lucretia wouldn’t normally involve herself in cheating on her husband, but it’s what God had intended. This, as result, has Lucretia fooling her husband and pursuing Callimaco in hopes of conceiving a child.

pg57

“Listen to her, the way she answers. she looks like a rooster.”    In this quote, you can see the difference of Lucrezia’s personality. In the beginning of the play, she is the only one seemingly virtuous . But now, she becomes a totally different person. This is one of the result of the fraud.

Conflict: The fact that all of the deceptions lead to a happy ending. if this is saying that the fraud is acceptable when it attains a positive ending?

 Comparison between the Two Bodhisattva

20141119_112452Guanyin MET  Maitreya refers to a bodhisattva who in tradition of Buddhism is to emerge on earth, attain complete enlightenment, and then teach puredharma. As the scripture states, Maitreya would be an heir of historic Sakyamuni Buddha. The foretelling of Maitreya arrival refers to a period when many Jambudvipa would have forgotten Dharma. This is found in the canonical literature of all the main Buddhist schools and is acknowledged by many Buddhists as a statement regarding event, which will happen when Dharma would have forgotten on earth.

On the other hand, Avalokitesvara is the biggest number of forms and is conceivably the most respected and the most accepted Buddhist god. His sex, initial masculine, sometimes it is considered feminine in Japan and china, though this discrimination is not supported by of the canonical text. The Avalokitesvara is recognized from early Mahayana doctrines development and, until the Buddhism disappeared from India, it has enjoyed great favors there.

The painting appears to have a significant religious meaning. It seems to have some kind of supernatural powers. The writings and the rays coming from the circular part makes it appear supernatural. It somehow associated with beliefs, as we can see; some people are praying facing a particular direction. The people are praying in a mountain implying that it is a holy place. It is also evident that people have different styles of worshipping, some look up, some face the ground and others kneeling down. Although all these distinctive styles, they are all worshipping the same deity. The writings on the painting looks like the commandments under which people of the same deity live in, they have to follow and do as the deity commands them.  Rubin

chapter 9 Monkey king

In page 88, the Dragon King says, “One good deed deserves another….I must get his life back for the kindness the other day.” This quote serves to show the importance of doing well. It shows that good deeds are somewhat rewarded no matter after how long. It shows the importance of gratitude.
Also, in page 87, Chen says, “I have heard that when the eyes of a fish or snake flicker, one may be sure they are not ordinary creatures.” This statement is intended to show the keenness of Chen to detail and his alertness and wealth of knowledge on culture, traditions and beliefs.
