Thor: The Dark World

The premiere for Thor: The Dark world in the United States was November 8th while in London they had it about a week earlier on October 22nd. I was finally able to see this movie about on the 10th with some friends. This movie was my top choice for movie to see during the month of November because I might be a little bias to superhero and comic book movies or because I’m a huge fan for these kind of things. Despite that i manage to broke my own rule regarding to watching 3D movies . . . again.

Thor: The Dark World or Thor 2 is the sequel to the Marvel’s superhero movie Thor (2011) which follows the events of Norse God Superhero Thor. In this sequel the movie setting starts about a couple of months after another Marvel’s movie “The Avengers”(2012) which features two of the main cast from the Thor movie franchise.  One being Thor himself played by Chris Hemsworth and villain turn anti-hero Thor’s brother Loki played by Tom Hiddleston some how a fan favorite despite not being the hero.  In the Thor sequel it feature all the main cast from the first Thor stand alone movie; with Natalie Portman reprising her role as Jane foster Thor’s love interest and even Sir Anthony Hopkins playing all father Odin again. More information of all the cast member of the movie can he found Here.(Total Cast list)

My impression for this movie although being the sequel it turn out to be a lot better than the first film it had stronger story line a lot more action and best part is that despite being a stand alone Thor movie it still connects to the whole Marvel universe franchise leading in to something more grand in the upcoming marvel movie projects. My guess Avenger 3.

Some positive aspect to the movie was this time Thor look more natural in this sequel then in the first movie, by natural I mean Hemsworth this time actually grew out his hair for the role of Thor while in the first movie he was actually wearing a wig. This make a lot of sense since i always thought he looked sort of off in the first movie.  The story line was stronger in this movie because it had a more in depth plot where it suppose to give the back story to the mystic item called the Aether  which what the main villian (dark elves)  wants during the whole film. Another good part to the movie was there was more action this time, through out the whole movie there was more destruction and fight this time around and even a space ship chase scene.

For negative aspect I really didn’t notice much may be partially due to my bias toward the movie but it would have probably been the lame humor they try to add in the movie for a quick laugh. Aside from that i would have to say there were some scene that made the movie looked off because Portman’s character height varies from scene to scene because Portman real height is 5’3” where as Hemsworth is about 6’3” so when they are in a scene together you can notice the difference since they made a special ramp for Portman to stand on this wasn’t really  a negative but instead more like a interesting trivia.

So Thor: The Dark World should you pay to watch this movie in theatres? My answer to that is Yes, if you enjoy the Movie The Avengers 2012  or a comic book super hero fan you would probably in enjoy this movie as well since it kind of a back story to the build of something grand. The reason i say this is that like all Marvel movies they like to leave something special to the viewer who sat through all the ending credits.

Spoilers . . .  This time  is is no exception about the one fourth in to the ending credit, it show a scene where the Aether (super powerful item that bad guy been fighting to get) is being turn over to a person known as the collector which he states he is still missing 5 items. Which to all comic book fan is known as the Infinity Stones being part of the 6 item to form the Infinity Gauntlet which belong to Thanos (evil guy at the ending credit for the avenger movie) leaving it an open for a sequels.  And finally to all the audience who managed to sat through all the credit they get reward with a reunion scene between Thor and Jane and a post comedic scene of a strange beast that was forgotten.

  1. I did not watch the Thor 2 yet. But after reading you review of the movie, it makes me want to watch it so badly. I like how you noticed all the details in the movie like the hair and the height. Good observation.
