Spring Break

During spring break I worked on my research for my presentation on privacy and security. I spent hours on the computer finding information on my topic and even found some interesting videos on the Internet. One of the videos I found was about employers searching facebook to find information about potential employers. They interviewed Clay Shirky to discuss the impact social networks are having on privacy. I found it interesting how he says ” what technology makes possible is colliding with our social sense” What I understood from this is that privacy is battling with technology, privacy is losing this battle because people share their personal information with the public. Check the video out.Facebook killed the private life

MacArthur and paywalls

MacArthur has some valid points about being paid to write. This is his job nobody wants to work for free unless they are doing this as a hobby. At some point people can profit from there work especially if you take hours of your time creating something. It is nice to be able to read content online without having to pay for it too. Some of us still go to the store and pay for a copy of the printed newspaper. Some like to read the paper on the internet.  The internet allows for people to share content freely . But if a newspaper company decide they want charge to read thier internet material why should I be upset. Business is business companies need to make profit too so they can survive. I disagree with MacArthur when he says Internet reduces the value of writing. I feel it increases the value of writing. People have the opportunity to write even though they are not getting paid they are doing something they love. Writing can be a sense of relief it is their way of communicating with the world freely without restrictions.
