I have two topics that I would like to write about for this class, one would include arts and culture.  New York City offers various stories about different cultures since this is a diverse city. I would write about communities or neighborhoods that are unfamiliar to New York residents.Many groups live in several neighborhoods in the city that originate from Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe. However, I have always wondered if there is even a Brazilian or Paraguayan neighborhood here since many who reside here are of Mexican, Dominican, Puerto Rican, Ecuadorian, Argentinian or other backgrounds.For the arts, I would write about interesting museums, events or plays that are important to New York residents or people who are involved in the arts that have interesting stories to tell the world.

Regarding choosing multimedia elements, for culture I would choose photos and probably videos, only if there is some movement occurring or something unordinary. For the arts, perhaps photos or a podcast if I would to write a story about a play or a museum. If I were to write about an artist or someone in the arts field, I would include a video.

The second topic I would write about would either be about the environment or about animals. I love animals and I think animal cruelty is a big issue, at least for me it is. Poor animals are used for experiments and I think it’s unfair for them.  Also, stories about the environment involving global warming and the use of fossil fuels never seems to get old and surprisingly as the years pass by, the idea of global warming sounds more logical and real. If I were to use some of the multimedia elements for animal cruelty, it would be a podcast and for the environment, video or photos.

Although I’ve said I’m open to whatever comes to my mind, and up to try new things, my creative side is set on music and photography.

For as long as I could remember I’ve always enjoyed writing and always knew  that I’ve wanted to become a well known writer one day. I was crazy about entering writing contests, writing down poems, scripts, getting my work out there and published and of course one of my favorite topics to write about was always music related. The reason I pick music isn’t the obvious reason that it’s just because I love it in general but the fact that throughout the years I’ve also written my own music, and even had bands want to use my lyrics. I don’t consider myself a perfect writer, even though it’s something I’ve done for  years. Yet since people found potential in those lyrics alone that I write,  I decided to stick with it and see what happens from there, maybe even the possibility of  writing to promote new bands and artists as well. So that is why if I had to pick a topic, then music would surely be one of my options.

My other only choice that I can think of for the moment is photography. I’ve always enjoyed the art of a picture, and just taking pictures in general, so my creative side getting into photography for the first time wasn’t surprising. I started getting real serious about photography when I decided to minor in it here at Baruch College. Now that I know and understand the basics of working a camera and taking pictures of in the moment, it’s become like a hobby, and I’m passionate about it just as much. I’m not sure, what I’d write about but at least I’ll be able to make photo essays which I’m really looking forward to.

So for the moment being, those are my thoughts on my options and why I choose them, hopefully I can learn to expand on one, and let my creativity show more.

Welcome, all. This is the class site where we’ll post assignments.

There are two topics that I am interested in.  The first being music.  Ever since I was a kid, I lived and breathed music; I was always the girl that you would find with the headphones in and blaring.  However, I am not too sure how I would go about reporting on this subject.  One of my girlfriends interns at a PR firm, and has access to artists, but they are mainly new talent.  This could be an option, in that I would help them put their name out there and help them gain more fame and recognition.

The second topic that I am interested in is restaurants, more specifically co-branding.  I am the manager of a Quiznos that was recently bought out.  The new owner is planning on creating a co-brand with a London based shop called Shake Away to compliment Quiznos.  This is a new and interesting aspect to business.  This would be a lot easier for me to focus on because I know several store owners who have bought out failing businesses and are looking for ways to boost sales.  I can also speak to various corporate representatives to see and understand their view on the subject.  There’s the new owner as well as his brothers, who have done their own versions of co-branding but in the different countries.  This would work for international stories as well as local stories.  It would also give me various opportunities to compare and contrast different stores and locations.

Although the second option seems the easiest, music has always been my passion.  I think I would have more fun and be able to create more interesting products if I focused more on the music aspect rather than business.
