Olympe De Gouges

Olympe De Gouges is a women in history whom made a huge impact in history while fighting for women’s rights in the late 1700’s. Not only did she fight for women’s rights but also against slavery. She claims that slavery is “founded on greed and blind prejudice. De Gouges stresses out that the “Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen” should also include women’s rights. De Gouges exercised that the Right to Speech was important to women in order to reveal the father to their children. Back in the 1700’s women did not have the right to do that. They were just an icon for a person for reproduction therefore men can satisfy their sexual desires with the women and not having to take any responsibility. Therefore the right to speech is really important to women during the 1700’s which is why De Gouges made this a very important point in her Declaration of the Rights of Woman and of the Woman Citizen

Throughout the excerpt it is shown that De Gouges was trying really hard to convince other woman to take action and to fight for their own rights. She is also trying to get the audience and other citizens to notice and to recognize woman as actual people with rights instead of viewing them as a person that has only one purpose which is reproduce.
