My name is Nikolas E. Caruso and I am 20 years old finishing up my first semester at Baruch College. I grew up in a small suburban town 20 minutes outside the city called Larchmont and lived there until I was 18 years old. After moving to Colorado for six months in late 2014, I moved back in with my father who now lives in Bronxville NY (another bordering suburb). It was only about a year and half ago (give or take three months) where I began to slightly consider myself a writer, of course I wrote essays and book reports when I was in high school but soon after I graduated in 2013, I started writing recreationally. It began with just chicken scratch, ramblings of the mind, but I then started to try and write more cohesively. I progressed onto spoken word poetry with no formal stanzas or whatnot, then I realized how much I enjoyed rhyming lines of spoken word to a certain rhythm or a beat, and given that I produce electronic music… I started making beats that I could rap over. Now whenever I come up with a great rhyme scheme or two words that sound cool together, I pull out my phone and jot it down real quick before it’s gone. I also do this with quotes or phrases I hear people say or read in any articles that I look at. Words are the key to try and make sense of all the amazing and overwhelming things we witness during everyday existence so, why not try and make it beautiful?
