Late Friday I received a request from a member of the college’s administration for the top industries by employment in NYC. I found the information in Gauging Employment Prospects in New York City 2009, published by the New York City Labor Market Information Service, which was formed by the New York City Workforce Investment Board, CUNY and the Center for Urban Research.

Rita’s suggestion is superb. A modest possibly useful supplement with a regional slant (including NYC) for similar economic development information comes from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The bi-state agency is a major economic development agency collecting reams of data, some shared publicly and a major builder of infrastructure in the cross-Hudson River region. The agency has a web site with the complementing economic information; the url is http://www.panynj.gov. The home page has a link titled “Regional Economy Report” as well as other links to sources of usfeul information about regional development.
