There were some striking features of the essay that helped determine the main idea. For example, the part of the essay where Colin, 10 year old boy, and Jopeth, Colin’s best friend, didn’t know any names of girl’s in their class. Rather, they call them inappropriate nicknames like “Cortnerd, Terror, Spacey, Lizard, Maggot, and Diarrhea”. Another example, is when it states that Suzanne, Colin’s fifth grade teacher, had to be careful of making sexist reference. These parts of the essay helped me determine the main idea.
There were some parts of the essay that puzzles me. One part was that when the editor was describing Colin, but the sounds like an ordinary boy. The part that puzzles me is that he doesn’t sounds special at all. why is the title the essay “The American Man, Age Ten”? Another part of the essay that puzzles me is when the editor and Sally, Colin’s dog, get trapped in Colin’s spider web at his backyard. I feel that there’s a bigger picture in that scene. Does the Spider Web symbolize anything? I also, feel that I’m missing a connection between that image of the spider web and the essay. But I can’t quite grasp the concept.

In “Dream House as Prologue”, by Carmen Maria Machado, erasure is depicted as a political act. This essay quotes, “What is placed in or left out of the archive is a political act, dictated by the archivist and the political context in which she lives”. Thus, explaining that information provided in the archive is based on the decision of the archivist and political society, which its claim about silence. In “You Left Out The Part About…”, erasure is depicted as an act of racism. The essay includes a historical event that was crucial for African Americans, but hidden. Also, the essay
The two essays were different for many reasons. In “You Left Out The Part About…”, written by Ta- Nehisi Coates, is specifically relating to African Americans by including historical event. While in “Dream House as Prologue”, it doesn’t have any correlation with African Americans because it only includes the erased history of Eleanor Roosevelts and Lorena Hickok. Another difference is that Coates believes that the African Americans in our history are the mutants which is represented in the movie “X-Men: First Class”. Coates states “The mutants, as they are dubbed, are generally handled roughly by the rest of humanity and singled out for everything”. What Coates means is that the African Americans have been roughly treated by the rest of society. What Coates means about “the rest of humanity”, he means the whites.
Not only are there differences, there are some similarities as well. For example, they share the similar themes, such as silence, erasure, and society affecting history. Coates states “This is all about knowing your audience.”

Raiders
Raiders is a team, within the JROTC program, where we push our body strength and limits to improve endurance, strength, and muscle. This image is important because I was the captain if this team, where I would supervise and workout all females and males. Not only was I captain, I was able to create special bonds with friends, which were similar to a family. I would prepare them in competitions against other Raider Team. The competitions consists of 2 mile run with teammates, one mile obstacle courses, constructing and crossing a bridge made of rope between two trees, and 2 mile run with 45 pound backpacks. These events were all timed and the fastest team gets rewarded. This experience made me obtain the skills to lead, and planning. When I was trying out for this team, I have gone through many physical injuries and soreness. My friends were the ones that motivated me to not give up. I will never forget the experience I had with this specific team.
