The High Line is a public space in New York City that runs about a mile and a half from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to 34th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues. It is the ultimate combination of city and nature as it was built on abandoned railroad tracks, many of which are incorporated into the park’s design. The conversion of the railroad tracks to a park began in 2006 and the last section of the High Line was completed in 2014. It’s design is inspired by the self-seeding plants that grew on the tracks when they were not in use and it now features a wide variety of perennials, grasses, shrubs, and trees.
