Facebook Helps LC Class Connect
Almost every single freshman here at Baruch has a common goal – to make friends, even though Baruch College is a commuter school. There are many ways to do just that, such as striking up a conversation with a stranger or joining a club, but the easiest way is to get to know your learning community.
Learning communities and freshman blocks are pre-set schedules with the same group of kids. These were made for class scheduling to be easier for students, and for freshman to build relationships with each other since they see familiar faces in every class.
LC 12 has done just that, become friends with each other. What helped solidify their group was the Facebook page one student created solely for LC 12. On it, they discuss classes, assignments, and post any other questions they have in their mind.
Since September, the 17 members communicate daily and help each other out. They have created a bond that all Learning Communities at Baruch should have, and Facebook was the foundation for their friendship.
