Inside of Outer New York

Take a break and watch the night sky and carry on with your adventure of the alternative nightlife of NYC.
People usually only think of the fast-paced New York City that we live in every day. Whether someone is a New Yorker or not, movies, media, and/or experience illustrates how people in New York are always on-the-go. People rarely think of calm walks on a boardwalk or watching the sunset across the Hudson River. New Yorkers always running from place to place, picking up fast food while getting to their next destination, when can we take a break?! Fear not- just along the border of this beloved city is a place where anyone can go to take a romantic stroll with a lover, enjoy the night sky with friends, or spend quality time with yourself and clear your mind. Along the Hudson Parkway past 12th Ave lies this secret place inside Chelsea Piers.
One may think, “Chelsea Piers is a place of priced entertainment,” but only if they knew how wrong they were. Past the sports complex and golf club, there is a boardwalk of relaxation- and the perfect time to go there for serenity is at night. As the sunset arrives, people slowly start to leave and only few remain to experience the wonders of this kind of nightlife. The bright fluorescent streetlamps turn on creating a beautiful path to little surprises along the pier. A walk during the day is different from a walk at night- it becomes a completely new place. Romance comes to life as the sun sets and the music brought from a visitor starts to play. Who doesn’t want to dance under the stars? These New Yorkers gather together underneath a canopy next to the water and slow dance/waltz the night away. Couple feet before that are tables where one can sit down and get lost in the soothing sounds of jazz, watch the water glisten as a ferry boat passes by, or just enjoy the view of New Jersey across the Hudson River.
This one long boardwalk of Chelsea Piers transforms as you keep walking- it could go from a wooden pier, as if it were a beach without sand, to a cobblestone path, surrounded with grass and trees, to a dirt road that leads you to a mini rock garden where many photo-shoots can be held. There are so many things to discover as the walk continues. Not only is this whole border of New York is a work of art itself, but there are actual sculptures and other fun pieces of artwork placed throughout the pier. Further down the walkway, pass the entertainment complexes, you come across a concrete trail that takes you to an area of green grass and curved pathways- you could forget that you were still in New York.
There are many activities to do at the pier whether it be day or night- exercising, mini picnics, reading a book- it is a great escape. Although the Hudson River is very dirty that fish could barely survive in that water, it looks beautiful from the pier. The pier is a peaceful place anyone can turn to for a wonderful time, every time. This is a part of New York nightlife that people need to experience rather than the same old barhop and hazy memories. Not only is it one of the best places to have a lovely evening, but it will also benefit those who have giant holes in their wallets.
