Gallery Tour

On October 13, 2009, I followed my friend to a Gallery tour in Baruch’s Art life.  It was my first time to visit Gallery, in fact.  Feeling curious about the display, I accelerated my walking rate to the gallery to observe the paintings.  The themes of the display were about the Nature of Landscape and the Nature of Photography, and each of these themes contained a series of paintings by different artists.  In one instance, Tom Baril, who was a graduate student of New York’s School of Visual Arts in 1980, has been achieved predominant accomplishment of photography.  His genius of studing urban architecture, still life and minimalist seascapes enabled him to hold display in countless publications and collections.  In addition to Tom Baril, Erica Lennard also was the one who contributed largely to the photographic field.  Among photographers of gardens working, Erica Lennard was considered as the one of the most talented ones.  The gardens, which had become the subjects of her photography, owned different kinds of exotic style and vivid structure.  The majestic formal gardens of Europe and Zen Gardens of Japan, for example.  Each of them, perhaps, shared same kind of flowers and plants, but because of the cultural difference, the cultivation, the arrangement, and the meaning of garden were distinct between them.  Pursuing the nature of beauty, Erica Lennard decided to do a re-interpretation of the beauty of gardens, which also enabled her to become a fashion photographer.  Conclusively the workshop of Gallery tour had expanded my view of the field of photography.  Also I understood that the world needed photography to photograph its beauty.

Club Fair

planetarium on Nov 6th 2009

The club fair, as held in the Main Gym on September 24, introduced students to lives of various clubs in the Baruch College.  In this club fair, there were a lot of clubs, including the Bio-Med Society, Baruch City Advertising Society, Colleges against Cancer, Finance & Economics Society, Actuarial Science Society, NY Music Industry Association, and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, that I had never seen before.  Among these clubs, the clubs of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program and Actuarial Science Society were the most interesting and attractive ones to me.  The VITA program, as stated in its title, was mainly dealt with income tax.  It enabled students to have new insights of how the world of accounting progress.  Also, it granted opportunities to students to experience the real taste of filing income tax.  In addition to the VITA Program, the Actuarial Science Society served as my assistant in reaching my future goal of career.  Receiving help from the Actuarial Science Society, I started to realize the responsibility of an Actuaries and the essence of having Actuarial Science in the business world.

Library Tour

planetarium on Oct 25th 2009

On September 9, 2009, my Freshman Seminar class had a library tour.  In this library tour, I learned so many new things, such as the collections of magazines, journals, and reference books.  The Newman Library, as locates on the second floor,  has a huge collection of reference books that arrange from A to Z.  Besides the collection of reference books on the second floor, there are also so many magazines and journals on the third floor to let students and professors to read.  In addition to that, if students have difficulties on doing their homework or having problems for the exams, they can go to ask the reference desk on the second floor. Furthermore, the second floor has a Circulation Reserve, which allows students to borrow their books or study tools, for example:  CDs and clickers.  The most interesting thing in this library, I think, is that students can borrow laptops on the third floor of Newman library.  And also I like the fourth floor, where is so tranquil and comfortable for me to study.  Overall this library tour not only expands my horizon, but also gives me incredibly good experiences.
