Podcast Pitch – Commuiting via Astoria Ferry

I would like to do a podcast on the Astoria route of the NYC ferry line. It is operated by Hornblower Cruises. The new route opened on August 29th 2017, form Astoria to Wall ST./Pier 11. It takes approximately 47 minutes to reach Wall St./Pier 11. It has three stops: Roosevelt Island, Long Island city, and East 34th street.

This subject is interesting because nowadays the subway lines are packed and people need more options to commute. People who live in Astoria will be interested to know about the new Astoria NYC ferry line. The main purpose of this podcast is to inform the residents of Astoria how commuters feel about the new ferry line. I will try to find out from the commuters their overall experience of taking the ferry for their daily commute and whether this is better than taking a subway or a bus.

Podcast Pitch

For my podcast I intend to interview the head of operations and marketing for Mented Cosmetics, who I have the ability to get in touch with. It is a brand new beauty brand which is intended to be a inclusive brand for all skin colors. The beauty industry is one that keeps on evolving and is hard to crack into. Cosmetics is something that is relevant to many women in today’s society, especially to college students. There is a lot of talk when it comes to what makes a good cosmetics brand and if it’s worth to spend the money on those brand labels.  I’m interested to see how this brand is planning to market themselves as some brands such as Kylie Cosmetics does all of her own marketing without spending a dime as well as what makes this brand different than others out there on the market.  This industry is one that keeps on evolving and with every year a new trend is set by them.

Podcast Pitch

For the first assignment, I plan on interviewing Oriana Carletto, a freelance artist and cartooning major in the School of Visual Arts. Oriana has already agreed to an interview and they have a niche in the gaming art community. However, Oriana recently collaborated with another artist and released their first original art zine, stepping away from easily more popular fanart niche. I’m interested in the artist’s side of transitioning from producing art for others to art for yourself.

Podcast Pitch

For my podcast, I plan on interviewing a female skateboarder that is based in New York City. With this fifteen minute interview, I plan on capturing the small world of female skateboarders in New York City. I think listeners would find it interesting to hear what it’s like to be a female skater in a male dominated industry.

Podcast Interview Pitch

For my unscripted interview podcast, I would like to interview Christopher Lam, a student pilot. I have already contacted him and he is interested in being interviewed next weekend to drop listeners into the world of becoming a pilot: a career many people dream of but few follow through with.

Sample Questions and Talking Points:

How do you feel your college experience differed from the experience of others in your graduating class?

Have you had any close calls while flying? Any moment in time where you thought, “I’m in trouble” or “I’m in danger”?

– Amount of studying that goes into passing aviation classes
– Achievements
– etc.

PODCAST PITCH

I am planning on doing a religion podcast. I will be interviewing Yaindhi Alvarez, a woman who grew in a Catholic family and decided to become a Jehova’s Witness. I feel like the target audience would be anyone interested in Theology, or anyone who wants to see more of a personal perspective inside of religion.

Podcast Pitch

I intend to interview Noëlle Santos, a Bronx native and resident. Noëlle is the owner of the Lit Bar, a bookstore featuring local indie authors, a wine bar and a community center. The Lit Bar is striving to open this Fall. I believe that this will be relevant and interesting to listeners due to the recent shutdown of the borough’s only major bookstore, Barnes and Noble. After the shutdown nearly 1.4 million people in the Bronx lost the only bookstore in the area.

I would ask her questions on how the store will operate and work within the Bronx community, specifying as to how she aims to bring a literary presence to the Bronx. I would also ask her as to how she aims to bring in independent artists within the borough.

Podcast Pitch

I intend to interview Patrick Bobilin, a Democratic candidate for New York City Council District 5. The election is on September 12th, ensuring the interview would be highly topical. Moreover, politics is a hot-button issue in this country right now and Bobilin, someone who worked on the Bernie Sanders campaign last year, labels himself as a progressive whilst competing against two other Democrats for the council seat.

I would ask him questions regarding his campaign, the contrast between national issues and local elections issues and how, if at all, the events of last November have led to a more active stance at grass-roots level. I would also query him on campaign finances and how District 5’s incumbent, Ben Kallos, has raised over $100,000 for his campaign whilst Bobilin has raised ~$3,500.
