First Draft Review

Unit 3: Remix

Lesson Materials: 1. PowerPoint Presentation

Lesson Objectives: 1. Draw connections between visual and written “syntax,” seeking examples in the assigned reading. 2. Create a collaborative space for working together to ensure that your composing meets assignment criteria.

Connection to Major Paper/Project: This lesson will help you design a good website and make connections between written and visual communication.

Connection to Course Goals: Today’s lesson emphasizes composing as a collaborative process. Your first draft will not be graded, and you will be asked to comment on your partners’ composition.

Activities:

  1. UX and UI design: Watch the first 4 minutes and 22 seconds of this video. Then, discuss as a class.
  2. Content, Organization, Rhetorical Situation (CORS) Handout: Answer questions about your own website and review a peers’ website.
  3. Implement changes: Share your website with the class. Focusing on the 4 categories in the peer review handout (rhetorical situation, visual design, resume, and blog), take notes based on what your peers and the professor say about your site.

Homework:
1. Revise your websites based on peer review feedback
2. Work on your blog: revise your first post. Your first post should be an abstract of your argument paper. Your first post should include a link to your whole argument paper. Decide whether you are going to publish your argument paper as a PDF or as a web page.
