In order to pick our community service project, we asked peers what they are doing. From the information they gave us we saw what we would like to do. For example, if we would want to work with children, homeless, or sick people. They gave us ideas and we narrowed it down to what we decided, which was to help homeless people suffering with AIDs and HIV. I have yet to go to any support centers but I am sure I will go to them very soon. I have joined Hillel, which is a Jewish cultural club. So by allowing these resources such as factually, peers, and staff to help with choosing our organization. It opened the conversation to us, allowing us to ask our peers about future courses we will take. I asked my older peer what they think about CIS and they said they loved it, which persuaded me to go ahead and enroll in that class. I also now ask faculty questions regarding my work and therefore, I am more accurate in getting the work done similarly to how they thought the assignment should be done. My understanding for community service evolved as a result in understanding this project. Now, I see why it is so important to help people in need. I volunteered before but that was just with a camp for the summer as a counselor and office worker. But now I see other opportunities that I have. Like volunteering my time, in order to help those who are sick and can’t help themselves. In the next three years I see myself working in a Financial Company and I see my self volunteering on my time off. Since I acquired so much knowledge on why volunteering is important and necessary I will still try my best to help those in need. I am also debating whether I want to get my Masters in finance, but I still haven’t decided yet.

I’m currently a student in Baruch. My role in being a Baruch scholar is not only to accept the rewards that come along with this program but to give back. This year I would love to give back to my community by doing the community service we are assigned to do in our groups. I’m still
not sure where my group will choose to
give back.
During my high school experience I did a lot of community service, I did a more than 200 hours. I volunteered at Manhattan Beach Day Camp for one summer. I also volunteered in JCH during my school breaks. I did filing, data base entry, and translating for people who didn’t speak English. I loved giving back to my community. I did it from the end of freshman year to the beginning of senior year.
This is related to the culture of service the Honor Program promotes because I helped out my community and know I wanna help out my new community, here, at Baruch. I could also help out by joining clubs and next year promote the clubs I’m in, so more people would join and have a better college experience.
Another thing I could do that fits in with the culture of service that Honors Program promotes is advise people to vote and stand in the lobby giving out free stuff to those who sign up. This will help our community because more people need to express their voice, now more then ever, and vote! The concept of “one vote doesn’t count” isn’t true, because all those votes pile on and it becomes a large sum of votes. A large sum that DOES count. So those are some things I would do in my community to give back.

In my second year of highschool is when I really found out what I want my career to be. I got an opportunity to be part of a work experience program in a big Financial Firm called Mitsubishi Securities! It was here where I first learned about the stock market, mutual funds and bunches of other terms relating to the finance field.
Later on in highschool I took economics where I learned about those terms in more detail. I began to understand how they came together and, for example, how interest rates affects the money supply or why high inflation as well as deflation can both be perceived as negative aspects in our communities. I found myself even more interested in understanding these concepts and I wanted to go to a good bussiness college.
In my senior year I decided on going to Baruch and majoring in Finance. I still didn’t decide on a minor, but I am thinking about maybe minoring in economics because I enjoyed the course so much. I am hoping for a 4.0 GPA in Baruch and I’m working hard to get it!
In the future I would like to intern in firms like JPMorgan or Goldman Sachs. When I was little I dreamed of having my own office in one of those companies overlooking the city, although I know now that practically impossible I still would, nevertheless, love to work in those companies.
