The Islamic aesthetics, as we said in class, were very intricate and grandiose. Every work of art, including their weapons and armor, had super fine details that contrasted with the simplicity of their use. I looked at the daggers, chain mail, helmets, etc. and was marveled at the complex patterns and inscriptions that each item had.

I think the intricacy in the art can be found again in different parts of the reading. One part that jumped out at me was during the Fifth Night when it’s basically a story within a story within The Arabian Nights. This seemed quite intricate because they were telling the same story each night but they had to account for breaks because they needed to specify that Shahrazad was left alive another day.

Another interesting point I wanted to add was that they had a variety of sizes for their pieces, but some of the big pieces really made an impression on me. Most notably the gigantic carpets and the huge page of the Qur’an that was produced to battle the tiny Qur’an that fit inside of a ring.
