  1. After watching this debate, I would say that everyone had some very good points about the side there defending. It’s tough to choose, but I would say the return to office side won the debate. One is from Jamee stating that people’s worth ethic decreases and they become lazy. Thiy and Yellianni debate was very good, they’re debate had good points against each other, and it was funny.
Personally, after watching the debate, I’m neutral, both sides have very good points that I agree with. I believe that we should have the choice of whether we want to work in the office or work at home. I would love to do both, some days work in the office and some days work at home. There are several benefits to having the option to work at the office or at home. First, it can help to increase productivity as people are able to work in an environment that suits their needs. Second, it can help reduce costs, as working from home can save commuting and office costs. Finally, it can promote a better work-life balance, as people are able to choose when and where they work. Overall the debate was very intriguing and funny to watch and listen I give it a 10/10

  2. The future of work debate, return to the office argues that students have a hard life at home, wifi issues, better conditions are built in the office, mental health, and laziness. The opposing side ( work from home) argues mental health is a major problem when working in the office, staying home gives you relief, less stress. Transportation is a problem, staying at home saves transportation time, reduces greenhouse gases. Thiy was the best speaker. He came dressed formally appropriately as if it was a real live event, he took it seriously. He mentions many key points and has evidence to support his claims. Based on the “Future of work debate” work from home should win based on their evidence. They had many evidence to support their claim. Didn’t just give reasoning. Came at the rebuttal accurately, acknowledged the other side but came back to their side. After watching the debate I think the future of the office is work from home/hybrid. We live in a society now where basically anything can be done on the internet, and the pandemic supported that. For many years working at home was not a solution, it was never proven that it can work. But when the pandemic hit, it was a proven solution that working for home can work. It was made to work. Nowadays you can just get money from home. Hybrid would be the best solution. You need to build connections in person and sometimes you might need a break from society; a relief.

  3. I think the best speaker today was Thiy because he brought multiple sources to back up his claims. Not only that but he was also able to rebut many of the other group’s claims. This is also why I felt that his group won because all of his group’s claims were backed up by evidence while the other group lacked credibility to their claim even though their group had some good points they lack a lot of credibilities. After the debate it made me realize that the future of the work office would most likely be hybrid working because it offers the best of both worlds allowing the workers to help smaller shops but also allowing for flexibility in the workspace. It was also due to the fact that it still allows for the interconnection between the community but also allows companies to have the flexibility of working from home and also spending less on paying for offices making it mutually beneficial for both parties. Also, allow for more time because the employee will not waste time using transportation to get home. I also feel that it still allow for socialization between other and not only having the option of staying at home and being by yourself.

  4. The best speaker of the debate was Thiy since he presented his claim and support with real evidence. The team that has to win is the number 1 team because it presented different places where remote work is not effective. Although group 1 presented evidence to support its claim, its reasons were contradictory since they help the points of the opposing team. However, group number 1 must win since it gave strong points that working in people is better than remotely. The future job for me is a job where I can work them virtually and in person, that is, hybrid. In a virtual way because that way you have more time to do the work and have different jobs at the same time. In addition, with virtual work there is more flexibility. And on the other hand, work in person is better because it can have more interaction with people. Working on people also helps you mentally since you can see different things while you go to work. In addition, with working in person, people can be more creative and more responsible.

  5. The debate on the future of office is about the benefits of working from home and going back to the office. One side is about how working from home is better than working from the office because of it the mental health and physical health can improve in the safe place and no one is going to judge you. Also how working from home can improve financial decisions and could help the environment. One side of working from home is not good and going back to the office is better because it could help the small businesses and it could help the students better to go back to school and how the office helps the worker to focus on the work than working at home. The best speaker I think is the best is Thiy because of how working from home is better because it could help you save money and if you go back to the office it could affect the environment and can harm the earth. After watching the debate, I think the future of the office could be hybrid because of how people could work from home and one day you can go back to work. Also that based on people’s personality because of how staying at home could help you but working from the office can also help you. Also that hybrid can benefit both places, in addition if you get stress from working in the office then working at home can help your mental health.

  6. For today’s debate on the future of office, I am more for working from home. However, I feel there could be a half and half for the situation. Both sides have their rights but I do agree more with working from home. I feel that the better speaker today is Thiy because he did go on with the rebuttal and getting the point. I think the future of the office is going to be half and half. But more to working from home. Workers can work from home and be able to go to the office too. Working from home can be flexible and it can also help with the environment. Fewer cars on the road means fewer fossil fuels and which reduces one’s carbon footprint with less traffic on the road. However, with going back to the office it could be helpful for small businesses and making more connections with networking. With saving more money for the future and not being able to commute for hours to get to places. It is also possible to live in cheaper places with better food and climate but still be employed by the company in NYC. The idea of earning more and spending less but with a better living. Working from home has more of an ethos with evidence and sources where back to office is more pathos with emotions. Back to the office is mostly based on not losing the ability to face people and have connections. With companies not needing to pay rent, electricity, and gas can help save more money for other uses. For example, paying the workers more, using the money in the right way for small business.

  7. As a host of the debate, I tried to have no prior intention to incline to one of the points. There were really good point made by both teams.
Even though home is a safe place it is also a comfort zone.
We’ve all seen the consequences of working from home, we were unsocialized.
Who cares about green house gases if we go crazy at home.
Before discussing this matter I believe that we should ask ourselves: what are we working for after all? In order to make money? what do we need money for?
To make our homes more comfortable and stay at home? To afford more food?
these are not human things, we are social beings, we need stable social interaction, warmth from others. Physical Interaction with others is the main source of our emotions, without them we’ll go extinct soon.
So, we might take into account pros and cons from both of the point and somehow create hybrid working environment.

  8. The debate on the future office today was about whether people should go to an office or stay at home getting their job done. One group finds that working from the office is the best thing because you will get your work done on time without being lazy and also it’s more professional. And on the other hand, the second group thought working from home is best for their safety and it might help them save money with all the transportations.
Yelianni (group 1) and Thiy (group 2) were the best speakers today because everything that they said was point, very precise and clear. And also for the rebuttal they defend their group in the way that they always stand by their opinions by giving more details in different situations.
However, I think Yelianni’s group should win because I was more concerned about their opinions because I related myself to it. I experienced working from home and it didn’t work for me. In 2020 I had an internship job from school and for that internship I didn’t do well. Most of the time I just woke up and joined the class then mute the audio and went back to sleep. I didn’t do any work they expected me to do and after one month they kicked me from the work.
After watching this debate, I truly think that the future of office will be complicated because of the evolution of the technology people might choose to work from home. Even at this moment most of the people starting working from home such as the influencers. They just woke up and start reading or responding to their email (for collaboration). Then go out to take pictures for their content (Instagram, Tiktok, Snap, etc…) or pictures for their collaboration. And I feel like everyone wants to be an influencer now because it’s considered lazy or easy work.

  9. One side was defending return to office bringing points as easier to procrastinate, works that can’t do at home as doctors, retail workers, create connections, and wifi /tech issues. The other side was defending working from home because helps the environment, reduces greenhouses/ saves money on transportation and office clothes, and disabled people to have more chances to enter the working field.
After watching this debate about the future of the office, I think the best speaker was They because he bring evidence to back it up. I think both groups bring up good points on each side but the side that should win is working at home side mostly because they present evidence to show the credibility of their claims. I think the future of work should be hybrid because allows the benefits of both options, giving you the flexibility of working at home while also being able to create connections and networking at the office.

  10. The Future of Work Debate -Summary
The debate is based on whether people should return to the office or work from home. Speakers 1, 3, and 5 are representing the group that feels employees should return to the office. Speakers 2,4,6 are representing the group that feels employees should continue working from home.
Speaker 1 talks about how stress increases by working at home with the help of a text it is difficult to rest, and the quality of the work decreases by working from home, so the first part is focused on how people work better.
Speaker 2 focuses on how it is an advantage for normal people but a big disadvantage for physically challenged as they get the work done. Counter argument – That you can support your kids and make sure have a safe living at home.
Speaker 3 will get the work done with higher quality rather than from home. Also, the article explains how people can have a better lifestyle by having work-free weekends. People tend to procrastinate with others. You do not get enough opportunities to grow to a bigger position as the higher authorities in the workplace cannot truly acknowledge the real work. Also supports the city economically by using public services.
Speaker 4 begins by talking about efficient time management. Counter Argument – Online working helps you to live in better places as you are no longer required to stay in the city which also helps in allowing more better spending which makes you happy and essentially provides a better lifestyle. Saving a lot ofttimes helps us be more passionate about our work.
Speaker 5 – counterargues against speaker 2 by saying companies do provide accessibility features to all their employees taking the example of Baruch with special turnstiles and priority elevators. Relation with your coworkers tends to increase when you meet them in person rather than watching them on screen.
Speaker 6 discusses ways to cut spending by forgoing funds for travel and other expenses. Decrease in physical and mental strength by everyday commute. Students have increased their grades as they get more time to study and review material.
    Rebuttal-
(From the group who think people should return to office) Have a proper routine. Stores are being shut down in your work from home which would cause a rise in inflation as many stores to start shutting down which would affect prices of groceries which mostly tend to increase and there is a lot of widespread unemployment which would increase crime rates.
(From the group who think people should continue online work) Counter Argument- Everyone works an equal number of hours, so time management is the same. Not all places have the facilities to support for physically or mentally challenged. Many people have also started jumping turnstiles in metro stations.

  11. The people who argued for working back in the workplace argued that going back to the office because working at the office decreases feelings of stress. If people go back to the office focus on work and their ability to release stress once they get home and there is no crossover. They also argue on the economic impact of people who work in the office. For example, workers will buy food outside but if they’re not working in person anymore these places will lose business. Going out to work will help release stress because you go out. People argued for remote working and stated that it is more accessible for disabled people. Working remotely helps avoid anxiety and therefore it’s better to work at home. Also, parents who work from home are able to spend quality time with their kids. Additionally, this side argued, You’re able to work from home more efficiently, not having to worry about commuting problems. Being able to work online doesn’t require you to travel to be able to work the job, without having to move and change your location to work at a certain place. It also provides an opportunity to diversify the workplace. Many workers feel exploited in the office, and working at home helps workers mitigate this. Hybrid and online working should be embraced and allows employees to be more stress-free and avoid commuting problems. Hssnaa stated “going back to the office gives u more freedom? False. You are in the office almost every day, all day, this is not more freedom. The workplace isn’t always accessible because physical disability is not the only disability, mental disability is also a thing. There’s no reason for one’s paycheck should go to transportation. ” For this reason, I believe that Hssnaa was the best speaker today. I believe the side arguing for remote work won since they stated various points and rebutted all points brought up by their opponents. With technological advances and more accessibility to technology, the future of work will most likely be remote.

  12. The debate as a whole was alright, both side has pro and cons. The return to the office side’s argument is kind of weak, the point where it says money is worthless that make no sense so that was a bad point. The work from home arguments of the disable people were kind of weak point because only a small percentage of the population is disable, you guys should have talked about how dangerous the commute is if you look at news lately there are cases everyday on the mta about someone dying or getting hurt. That would be a better argument. In conclusion the side that won was the work from home side and I believe Emmanuel was the best speaker, he have a lot of strong point. I believe in the future return to office and work from home should be mixed and incorporate depending on different situation.

  13. I think the best speaker is Hssnaa because all her response to debate make sense. She talked about the disable people when it comes to in-person working or school. Although the elevator are provided for these people, it might be more convieniant for people who is disable to work at home. People have anxiety so everyone have their own reason whether they want to work at home or in person. Taking children could be convieniant when you work at home because you can work and take care of children at the same time. In addition, you can have more time to t spending with your family. There are also reason why in person working could be better because peopel are around you and you can always ask question when you need help. Boss or manager can see how you are working, therefore there could be a high percentage of you getting promoted. Concentration during work could be better when you are in person because you have the perfect working environment at home. However, there are still more advantage when you work at home because you can get more sleep and don’t have to go in rush. Finally working at home have more freedom. You can do anything at home whenever you want. This is why Hassana is a better speaker during this debate.

  14. The best speaker that debate with multiples proof was Hssna. She have a lot accurate details. I think the side that should win is the working at home because for me family is very important and while working at home parents can enjoy with their kids. Have less stress to wake up early to go to work…

Debater 1: It’s important to make a boundary between home and work. You won’t be able to rest good if you work at home, you should go back to the office

Hssnaa: We should not go back to the office think about others not only you not bc you are lazy to work at home that others should to. There is no difference between home and office. The office can still get done. Staying home and do work make spend more time to stay with family

yusheing: Working at an office is good because you work with people and enjoy each other’s company. Returning to the office make parents have more freedom.staying home will make you still get the same paycheck but you will also lose bc the more you stay home the more restaurant lose clients and the more they will increases the prices and fire some workers because they are not making the same amount of money like usually.

Emmanuel: It’s better to stay and work home. You don’t have to wake up two hours before work, to stress about the delay of the train,… you can spend your time wisely. Working online allows you to live wherever you want with any price without having to stress to live not too far from your workplace.

Sharon: Staying home affects kids’ mental health. When you are at the office you get to focus more. No kid distracting you.

Sogbe: working outside and having to deal with other people can give you anxiety. Not everybody can afford transportation everyday. Not everybody has the energy to wake up in the morning and go to work. Staying home and working is better because your kids go to school anyway.

What I learn about this is that there is benefits in working from home but also from working in person.

  15. The side that won the debate is the hybrid and works from the home side because they argue against the positive on the other side better and their argument on why it’s better is more persuasive. The best speaker is Hssnaa because she was very passionate about speaking. The side of going back to the office is that there’s a different form of stress. Another reason is that people can’t separate work and home life because it’s not clear in their mind. People are able to socialize with people when they’re in person. This is since it’s harder to make connections through a screen. This would make them more likely to get promoted. The other side is that there’s less discrimination face because of less interaction. There are buildings that aren’t accessible for everyone. This can be seen in transportation since not every station has an elevator for people to use. People will spend less money for transition and this would allow people to choose how to spend their time. This also allows people to spend more time with their families.
I think the future of jobs will be based on each company. Some companies will have multiple options because each person will have a different way of working so allowing people to choose will help the company have happier employees. Other companies will choose base on what will make them the most money so if people want to work at home but the company is losing money they won’t listen since most company’s purpose is to make money.

  16. I think the best speaker today was Yu Cheng Liu because he brought multiple sources to support his claims. The evidence he gave was that it is easy to get work done in the office; he said that staying home will cause you to be lazy and not do work, and you can work in a group and communicate with others. I think the return to the office won because their claims were backed up by evidence while the other group lacked credibility to their claim even though their group had some good points. After watching the debate, I think the future of the office would be in the office or at home because, when you have stress from working in the office, you can stay home to help your mental health. You don’t have to get up early for work, and you can spend more time with your friends and your family members. But working at home would be hard because of how frustrated and annoyed people are by having kids and parents in the background while trying to work. People prefer to go to the office because it is easier to communicate with people and work with them in person.

  17. After viewing the debate, I believe Sharon Perata is the best speaker today because she provides more background on the history of office employment and believes the “Return to the Office” side will win, especially because returning to work was important for people’s mental health because staying at home during the pandemic was distressing. Returning to the office enables them to relax, reset the system, and restore their freedom. At the office, individuals can communicate with one another and work in groups. Students frequently need your assistance with their assignments or in solving problems, leaving you with little time to complete your own job. When people stay at home, they are lazy, don’t do their work, and don’t know what is going on outside. Based on the “future of the office,” work during office hours based on their evidence. Over time, many people have already taken vaccines, and the government has announced that people can go to work if they want to. What is the point of staying home and doing your work while others are working hard in their offices and not being lazy.

  18. The best speaker is Yu Cheng Lin, because he tell his point clearly and prove his point with evidence. After watching this debate, I think the return to office side should win. This side uses a lot of very strong evidence to support their argument, and the one that I remember most clearly is that return to the office can make the overall economy grow. Yu Cheng mentioned in the debate that when we return to the office, we need to take the subway or bus. Choosing the MTA and choosing to work in an office will both make the overall economy grow, meaning more tax revenue and more money for the government. I think I will always return to the office in the future, because working in the office can improve my work efficiency and better communicate with my boss. Of course, there are benefits to working from home, such as waking up early and having more time off. But this kind of office is more relaxing and makes people want to rest rather than work and study.
