State Dependent Writing

Students were tasked with attempting new strategies of brainstorming and focusing on writing.

I was copying out a passage from “Atomic habits” by James Clear, and after I finished writing, I did feel I was able to focus more. I think copying out the passage gave me the momentum into being more productive and focused on getting work done. I have been reading more self-help books to become because it helps me get off social media and decrease screen time. After copying out the passage, my mind begins to think in the same sentence structure as the passage. However, my mind continues to think about the ideas from the book rather than being more focused on my own prompt.

After working out, I could not write too well because I felt like I was still calming down from working out. My thoughts were still focused on my breathing and my muscles were tight. I got some small ideas down but I could not keep my attention on writing. I was still thinking about the exercises I just finished and started thinking about what to eat afterward. After working out I usually begin considering what I need to eat post-workout and focusing on writing was not at the top of my mind.
