Two-Part Reflection on our Thoughts of Assignment 1
- The writing process:
In the beginning of when the assignment was given, I brainstormed a large outline with a lot of ideas that I wanted to write about. I thought about all of my troubles and stresses with the COVID pandemic but I soon began to lay it off. The main issue I faced was not having much time to focus. At the restaurant where I work, we were becoming understaffed and I had to pick up many more hours than I was used to. I was working up to forty hours per week the past two weeks on top of school hours without including my commute. With another essay for history and much other homework for accounting and law with closer deadlines, I was forced to push this assignment to the very last minute. It was difficult to focus when I would get home so late and some days I would have work the next morning as well. As I began to focus on this assignment, I had ideas from my outline but did not have a way to transition through all the ideas. I ended up going to the writing center right before class and the teacher there assisted me in collecting my ideas for the assignment. She gave me feedback on my already existing draft as well as new ideas and I decided to change my assignment around. But this led me to be unfinished with my draft on time.
- –
- I can improve my writing by transitioning through my paragraphs with better word choices
- I can improve my writing sentence level by ‘showing’ more with forms of dialogue and figurative language
- I can improve my writing by introducing my ideas better
- I can improve on concluding my paper better
- I can improve on having my ideas connect to the main idea more often
For a better draft next time, I will try to manage my time better by taking fewer hours of work if I know there are deadlines coming up soon. In my commuting time, I could take a look at assignments rather than sleep and listen to music.
