What I learned From Assignment 1 (Assignment outcome)

The product that I made for my mother is a shopping bag carrier. After I got feedback from the professor, I was quite upset with the product I created on tinkercad. Without thinking that the product that I made was already exited.

Apart from this, I talked to my mother about a product that I made her. Since we are in long distance. I video chat with her and talked for about an hour. I didn’t especially talk about the product that I made but I asked several questions, like,” what if you have a product like this and make your life a little easier?  and how often you go shopping and how hard is to carry all the bags with your hand?”. Her answer really surprised me. She actually has a hard time going shopping alone and there is no one to help her. It really made me emotional and want to be there for her.

Adding a story from my first assignment, I belong to a small village in Nepal where going shopping for groceries is unfavorable. You have to walk up to 20-30 min to get to the market. Regardless of everything, my mother always explains how hard to go to market all alone. she has to carry many heavy plastic bags by herself which gives so much pain in her hand with those plastic bags. As she is getting older, she does not have much energy like she used to have. So I came with this idea to make her life easier. This is a little plastic loop handle that allows you to slip on and carry multiple grocery bags up to 50 pounds at once.

Now coming to point, after we had a conversation, it made me realize that I should have thought a little deeper in my product to make my product more innovative before I create it. Yet nobody is perfect. People learn from their mistakes, so did I.  Also, it is a very painful way to learn, but without pain, there is no gain. I learned from the professor’s feedback and the conversation with my mother. She mentioned that shopping carrier only doesn’t help with her problem. Because she has a problem with excessive sweating which causes more pain and slipperiness. I paused for a moment and thought about it. So I decided to make a shopping carrier with stainless steel which is resistant to chloride attacks from sweat and seawater. At the same time, it has to be noiseless.

Besides, my mother actually liked the concept of my product and she suggested making the product a portable key chain holder to ensure that keys remain attached to the individual using them, making accidental loss less likely and saving on wear and tear on the pockets of the user. My mother helped me to think innovatively. We actually came to the idea of making a shopping bag carrier portable with a key chain holder. On top of that, my product is going to change into stainless steel instead of plastic. As steel is one of the most eco-friendly interior design materials and steel industry has proven to be extremely environmentally friendly.

In conclusion, I am going to modify my product from plastic to stainless steel and make it portable by adding the key chain holder.
