Outdoor Spaces Could Be a Worthy Investment

The high rent that comes with owning a business in New York City may not offer the most luxurious spaces, but what’s even harder to find is a nice space with an outdoor garden.

Many small businesses in New York City come in the form of bars and cafes – establishments where an outdoor space can add space and charm.

Brandon Hughes, co-owner of Lowlands Bar in Gowanus, Brooklyn, says that investing in an outdoor space is the best move they made for the bar.

“Even though the rent is higher, people love the outdoor space. They come more often, invite their friends, and stay longer. It evens out.”

Outdoor spaces are especially rare to see in Manhattan, but they’re abundant in Brooklyn. Hughes says “getting out of the city and into a quiet backyard with a lot of plants and lights is relaxing to New Yorkers.”

After visiting a handful of bars and cafes that have outdoor seating, it’s apparent that sunlight, plants, fairy lights, and a lot of seating are necessary for a successful space. Below are some examples of outdoor spaces throughout Brooklyn:
