Overscheduled Children: How Big a Problem?

Parents today are overextending their children and inundating them with extracurricular activities, both in and out of school. Parents themselves have very busy schedules and professional lives and no longer have the time to supervise their kids while they play outside or stay indoors, instead they set up schedules with activities ranging from piano to soccer to cooking classes. However, research shows that this is a big problem. Children no longer have the time to just be kids instead they have a schedule which demands a lot of time, effort, and responsibility. Strides have to be made by parents to make sure that they have a balance of extracurricular activities as well as time to just do nothing.
