- Allegory of the Cave by Plato shows there is more to life than what is in front of you. In “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka can Gregor’s family be represented as the chained up prisoners to some extent before becoming the free prisoner?
2. In Aristotle’s Tragic Hero, there is some increase in awareness and self-knowledge for characters. In “Journey to the West” Monkey can be seen as a character who goes through self awareness, where can this be seen? And how does it affect Monkey?

The first question is effective in the sense that it relates how the prisoners are chained up to how Gregor’s family can’t live an ordinary life because they attempts to hide Gregor. However, this question can also be tweaked a little and question about how Gregor, on the other hand, was also chained up by his responsibility to put food on the table for his family and when exactly, does he too, become free.
The second question helped me to analyze the text on a chronological basis. First, it helps me rethink how Monkey gains self-awareness and second, the effect of that self-awareness on Monkey through out the journey.
