End of the Semester

I have developed a lot in English since the midterm. I definitely improved on my critical thinking skills throughout the class. I was able to get a better understanding for each text we read, and I was able to clearly relate them to any themes or to the given journey models. This helped me during our free-write exercises. Many times before the midterm I would feel a little lost and really rely on what my peers were discussing. However, this time around, I was able to make clear assessments of each reading. I definitely still need to work on my grammar and becoming more confident in group settings. Overall, I felt like I definitely gained more confidence in my ideas, and I am not afraid to be ‘wrong’ when interpreting something. I really liked the last project we had to write. It really allowed me to be creative and explore every journal model. I feel as though the free-write exercises helped me gain other perspectives from the text. Overall, I can always improve on my grammar, but I also improved on my critical thinking skills while analyzing the text.

I agree, I also improved my critical thinking skills through the exercises. The oral presentation and the final project helped creativity flow. I used to struggle with grammar, but over the years I got gradually better. It just takes a lot of practice. You need to keep re-reading your papers, preferably after certain intervals of time. This will keep your mind fresh. Also, reading other people’s papers for grammar mistakes helped me strengthen my skills. In addition, you should slowly push yourself to speak up in group settings. Try to contribute one or two comments. This way you will slowly get used to group discussions.

Hi, in the beginning I also would feel lost and wasn’t as comfortable sharing my opinion even though others in the class would say what I was thinking. I’m happy you’re also feeling comfortable doing this now too. My grammer sucks as well and a tool my sister has been making me do since midle school is to speak properly. I honestly only do this around my house or if i need to in public. But it has helped because when I have to read my essay out loud i pick up on some of my grammatical errors, i hope this helps.

I agree with you too Kelly, I feel we all developed so sort of critical thinking from linking all types of text to another. We learned many themes such as the journey model and link them with various text as well. As for grammar, I too have that problem but I have been improving a little bit at a time. What I do is just practice, there is a saying “practice makes perfect”, but this isn’t always true. You have to practice the correct things if you practice the wrong grammar, that is only going to make it worse.
