Lesson on Islam Shuts Down Virginia School District

The article contains both aspects of authoritarianism and authority. Cheryle LaPorte was an authoritarian leader because she enforced a controversial assignment that created problems for the school. Although students such as Laurel Truxell were uncomfortable, the assignment was still to be completed. Truxell stated that she felt uncomfortable wearing the head scarf, but her teacher insisted that she would try it on. The school was forced to use their authority to close a day before break. Although the issue is controversial, the school is not making a change to what is going on in the classroom. This is surprising because of the negative attention the school is receiving due to what is going on.
