In this article, the author seems to be criticizing the “Radical Muslims” in an indirect way because he argues that although Islam means peace, there are many instances where particular Muslims are depicted in negative and violent ways. The majority of these particular individuals who give the Islamic belief and the Muslim population a damaging reputation are usually the ones who have power and decide they have to take their own actions to prove something under Allah’s name. In my opinion I think there is evidence of authoritarianism because already in the news, there are many news articles covering mass destruction and corruption of power in Southern Asia, mainly Islamic territories, where “good” Muslims like his friend, Sabeen Mahmud, is murdered for not being a good enough Muslim. The author believes that Islam does not have a definite description, however, it seems there are many who judge other Muslims using their own definition of Islam that probably come from their families and friends and possibly propaganda.
