A Port Jefferson man recently opened a bubble tea store of his own after experimenting with it at his parents’ tea shop. The new shop will feature classic bubble tea options as well as a new “bubble tea latte”, a hot version. The shop is open from either 1-9 or 1-10 most days.

Although kombucha does not have pleasing aroma and appearance, it is gaining popularity among people who favor organic beverages and some companies are expecting it to become extremely profitable in the near future. “It’s become incredibly trendy lately in the 20-to-30-something, foodie, intelligentsia set,” said Dr. Daphne Miller, a family practitioner and professor of nutrition and integrative medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. “Kombucha is like their Coca-Cola.”

Tea Leaves Rural Chinese County in a Panic

Menghai County is a rural town in Southwest China who gained a substantial portion of its revenue from its popular Pu’er tea brand. While the tea has obtained a significant amount of fame amongst Chinese natives in the past decade, its recent decline in demand left the small county frenzied and unsure of what they’ll do next for profit. “Most of us are ruined,” said Fu Wei, 43, one of the few tea traders to survive the implosion of the Pu’er market. “A lot of people behaved like idiots.”
