Affordable Virtual Reality: The Oculus Rift

NY TIMES EVAN 2

An ambitious project started by Palmer Luckey, the Oculus Rift headset aims to immerge computer gamers within a virtual world of a game while still being affordable to the average consumer. Players will be able to view the world almost in person with head motion tracking, giving a stronger sense of being part of the game. The technology used within the headset is said to be like those of smartphones, making the Oculus Rift affordable. The headset will also support users with glasses, using removable lens sets as well as movable screens. The headset could be used for other industries for more practice uses, or provide a full immersion experience with the assistance of other virtual reality hardware.
