How the Hum of a Coffee Shop Can Boost Creativity

A new innovating Web site called Coffitivity has surfaced into the cyber world. With an audience of over 8,000 people from around the world, it has surpassed the sleep assisting site, RainyMood. The founder of Coffitivity, Justin Kauszler, actually started out as an office worker and he found himself more productive brainstorming in a coffee shop, rather than in his muted office work space. As it turns out, studies have found that the noise of a typical coffee shop actually helped boost creativity. Quieter environments, such as Mr. Kauszler’s cubicle, are not desirable spaces for coming up with ideas, but the silence helps with concentrating on doing actual detailed work.

Starbucks Seeks to Keep Guns Out of Its Coffee Shops

19storeguns-articleLarge

When was the last time you saw someone carry a gun into Starbucks? I was surprised at how many times guns have actually affected the wonderful customer experience at this widely known enterprise. Some of the Starbucks shops have already experienced armed robberies and there were even “two  recent incidents where guns carried in women’s purses have discharged accidentally.”

With the shooting sprees that have occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the Starbucks Coffee Company has finally decided to restrict the use of guns within the premises of their stores. However, there will not be any signs to explain the new policy and baristas will not required to ask customers with guns in their holsters to leave, so there isn’t going to be a surefire way to enforce their company’s new ban on guns.

Drink Coffee, Live Longer

A professor at the University of Athens Medical School has conducted a study which goes to suggest that people who drink coffee can prolong their lifespan. His study is based on a group of people from a Greek Island of Ikaria. In his study he found that a certain type of boiled coffee is linked to keeping cells surrounding the arteries, healthy. When these cells are kept healthy, it leads to the arteries in these individuals working properly longer. When your arteries function properly longer, you can expect to live longer.
Therefore we can conclude that if you want to live longer do as the Greeks do. Drink boiled coffee, eat well and get enough rest. All things that are seemingly easier said than done.

“Hold the Sugar!!”

After a long period of debating, Bloomberg finally passed the law that put a limit on the size of soft drink you can buy. Soda’s larger than 16 ounces will no longer be available at places like McDonalds. One may ask how this affects a regular coffee drinker, but it affects them greatly. All coffees larger than 16 ounces will not be allowed to have more than 3 or 4 packets of sugar (this includes sugar, Splenda, Equal, and other sweeteners). This isn’t to say that a customer of a franchise such as Starbucks won’t be able to put as much sugar in their coffee as they want, they will just have to do it themselves. This regulation of sugar comes from a section under Bloombergs law, which regulates the milk, sugar and coffee ratio. This regulation takes away from the “grab & go” effect that many people actually come to Starbucks for.

Not only will you have to pour your own sugar, but since the ratios for the amount of sugar are all mixed up, a barista will only grow confused when the selection on the menu grows. A confused barista equals a longer wait for your coffee. In a city like New York, you can’t be serving slow coffee.

Your Brain on Coffee

Coffee, being one of the popular drinks on this planet, isn’t well known for it’s health contributions. This article shows us things from a different perspective and examines  the role coffee has on benefiting human beings. Only recently studies have been made that show how coffee has an effect on extending a person’s lifetime. Other studies have linked moderate coffee drinking with certain advantages: a reduction in the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, basal cell carcinoma, prostate cancer, oral cancer and breast cancer recurrence.
