The Tempest

The most enjoyable part of live reading was just being able to listen and really get to understand the characters and the storyline from a different perspective. The props, music, and scenery really captured the mood and idea that they wanted the audience to portray. Sometimes when I am reading I get distracted and lose focus so being able to watch the live reading I was able to concentrate, stay connected, and focus. The least enjoyable part of the live reading was that it was a very long reading and the language used was during Shakespeare’s time, which is a bit outdated, so it was quite difficult to understand what some of the characters were saying, and what they meant, due to the old language being used in the reading. The characters on stage and seeing them live with their costumes and accents, definitely enhanced their role and gave me a better and clearer perception compared to us just reading the texting in class. The live reading gave more of a real-life feel, and it was similar to a Broadway show due to the constant scenery changes and the different characters, the different dialogue, and the background noises I was able to stay engaged and better understand the reading due to being able to differentiate each character. If we students were reading the play in class, we probably wouldn’t have understood it, as well as we do now after watching the live reading. Because of the different people playing the different characters, they were able to create their own narratives for each individual character, making it much easier to comprehend.
