I have not taken English 2100 at Baruch College, but I have taken AP English Language and Composition in eleventh grade, AP Literature and Composition in twelfth grade, and English 112 in the Summer Semester of 2022 from Medgar Evers College. In the AP classes, we wrote analysis essays based on themes of poetry and books that we have read in class. In English 112, I wrote analysis essays on paintings, a turning point in my life, and an analysis essay of a character in a movie that I chose. In English 2150, I want to improve on my writing style, specifically getting used to more formal and efficient conventions of writing like the formal present instead of using familiar language to express the same idea. Furthermore, I’m interested in continuing to write research papers on various topics and rhetorical analysis essays because those were my favorite assignments in English classes. Lastly, I want to gain a better understanding different writing styles and how to analyze them, as my main struggle is to effectively analyze poetry, and understand and incorporate non-typical literary devices in my analyses.
