“Any radical pedagogy must insist that everyone’s presence is acknowledged. That insistence cannot be simply stated. It has to be demonstrated through pedagogical practices. To begin, the professor must genuinely value everyone’s presence.”

Join members of our Baruch Community on Friday, November 4, 2022 for a virtual teach-in on the need for trauma-informed teaching and learning. Trauma-informed pedagogy aims to go beyond accommodations to plan ahead for the possibility—and indeed, likelihood—of teaching students who have experienced trauma (CAST, 2018). Trauma-informed pedagogy allows educators to create truly equitable classrooms, by acknowledging invisible barriers to learning and seeking out the tools and knowledge necessary to create a vibrant learning community that centers care.
This event is sponsored by the Marxe School DEI Committee, Office of the Provost and the Senior VP for Academic Affairs and is funded by the CUNY Black Race and Ethnic Studies Initiative (BRESI). The event will be led by Dr. Anna D’Souza, the Provost Innovation Fellow for Inclusive Teaching and Associate Professor at the Austin W. Marxe School of Public and International Affairs at Baruch College.
