I actually learned something really interesting when I ventured off to search for trolling on Facebook. Personally, I’m not a huge Facebook user, so something I was not aware of when starting this project was that celebrities do not have personal Facebook accounts like the rest of us- instead, they have Facebook pages. I thought this wouldn’t make a difference, but I was wrong. I searched and I searched, and I actually could not find any traces of trolling on these pages. It seems that these celebrity Facebook fan pages are exactly that- pages reserved for fans. All the comments were surprisingly nice and pleasant, and as hard as I looked, it seemed there was no trolling to be found. I assume this is because people won’t like a celebrity’s Facebook page if they don’t actually like the celebrity, so people who would normally troll these celebrities on other social media sites just refrained from trolling on Facebook altogether. This was an unexpected development in my project, and I debated deleting the page on my website for Facebook and just not mentioning the site at all, but I thought the fact that trolling did not exist on Facebook was an interesting and important discovery. What this shows us about trolls is that they will only go out of their way to troll to a certain extent, and trolling on Facebook just wasn’t worth the effort.
