So, this oil painting on canvas was completed by Leopold Bara and it demonstrates Act 5, Scene 2 where Othello kills Desdemonda. It is often that artists show Othello with his hand grabbing at his heart because every time there is an intense event, he begins to have seizures. The way his body is positioned, it seems like he is surprised over his own doings. This painting stays true to the play, Othello is represented by a black male and Desdemonda is represented by a white female. The scene is where he has smothering her and now is realizing what he has done. Again, this reminds me to doubt Ohtello’s judgement. He ended up believing Iago and the missing handkerchief was the main reason for his lose of faith in their marriage. At this point, you do not know whether to feel sympathy for Othello or just label him as not the “sharpest tool in the shed”. He let his jealousy get in the way of reality and he killed his innocent wife over it.
