“A Salty Lamp” was an idea brought on by a friend of mine as I thought of what object to shoot/portray. The use of light as a focal point of the entire film was something to consider. Originally, the keyframes, compiled into a storyboard, were the foundations for the piece. I was not satisfied, however. The idea of conveying the loneliness of a salt lamp intrigued me more than I imagined. By utilizing bird eye and upward shots, the progression of dominance of each shot transitioned. With each shot, a different bitterness arose. From the people and/or dogs captured in different shots, the semblance is clear. The lamp does not serve its purpose, therefore bringing on a jealousy for those that are able to move on without their functionality. The difficulty of capturing light as the main emphasis furthered the direction as shown. Jealousy was what I aimed to portray through this salt lamp, but by giving it power and a function, the hopelessness is diminished.
