Pixel Forest

The Pixel Forest is exactly what you think it is. It spans three floors in this huge piece going through her works. Going from swamp to city.  First, I was lying down and looking up seeing in a fishes view with the sounds of being under water. I find it all very indulgent. The experience of immersive images and soundscapes, the exhibition really shows how her work fuses together life and communication.

It shows temptation with relaxation. Viewers can sit on bed or bean bags pending on which work you are viewing. It adds to this temptation with relaxation. The naked bodies with plants and flowers that have massive close ups.

I found the use of the smartphone to be very interesting. The phone makes the experience intimate although the video being played from it is strange and eerie.

What I found to be very interesting and could be seen as out of place was the video of Family having dinner  and the child’s birthday party. It felt very mundane even though the fire was trying to change that.

The whole experience is one massive multimedia landscape. It shows how Pipilotti Rist has grown as an artist and projected these advances in technology all the while trying to feel connected with nature.
