Reading through Hitos conversation and thought process, I agree with the things he bring up on. I agree that the platform for art is more easily accessible to almost anyone with access to the internet. That a lot of “artists” are now freelancers, and are a “mob”. A class which does not want to choose a to be a part of any class, would that not make them a class on their own? I do not think that art is subjective, but when someone defines something as art and not art, is that not subjectifying it? I agree that ads and scams are annoying and have a tendency to crude, however i dont think all are. It’s a form of a living, and to do it where ever possible, there is no need to knock it. The wording of how the mob sucks up to the elite, almost making it sound as though the mob would do anything is a little far fetched. The mob may contain the con-artists and scammers but it also includes a lot of really talented artists and creative minds. The form of being creative and visually expressive goes beyond basic art, it goes into design and to some degree professional beauty. I think it’s a harsh way to describe a big group, and on top of that to classify them as a single type.
As New media is, art evolves with time and technology. It inst however bad to use old tech, or techniques in new art. I find that using 16mm or grainier visuals all have their place in art, and what they portray. I think color and graphics that simulates our interest are just as expressive. I dont think any artist or professional needs to be in a “class”, they simply need to do what expresses them the best, and always push the envelope, even if its a step back.
