After reading a few quotes from Sun Tzu’s Art of War, this quote struck my attention, and to me, it related a lot to this clip. As written:
“The general who wins the battle makes many calculations in his temple before the battle is fought. The general who loses makes but few calculations beforehand.”
The bombing of Japan was strategic into winning the war in the Pacific. It may not have been nice or perfect, but it was one of the only ways that allowed America to strike the heart of Japan. It was well coordinated, and well thought-out. It left the Japanese wondering where we could strike next..
Following Clausewitz, it was a full use of force to subdue the enemy.
While I do agree that the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki was NOT necessary into wining the war… I believe that it was necessary to give a message. It was important to tell the Japanese to give up…
Some historians said that most of the Japanese would have given their lives for the war… And like McNamara stated, many American lives would have been lost if we invaded. Like a skillful general, they did their best to calculate the best choice.
And because of that: to us, they became heroes of the war. (not saying that I fully agree)…

I would have to agree with William that it wasn’t necessary to use the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki because in seen the comparison of devastation caused in Japan in relation to parts of U.S. I can really see that its a huge devastation.
I would have to say that I believe that U.S. like William said was trying to send a message and trying to make all the other countries see who has absolute power.
I enjoyed “The Fog of War” because it shows us another perspective of the U.S. outside of the educational history books making it seem that America was great and won proudly in the War but it never mentions the devastations, suffering, strategies and impacts of the war itself. This movie shows how the mechanics of war in the inside is being conducted.

Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is important and all.
