ABOUT

Between the north of 155th street and the south of Dyckman street in Upper Manhattan lies a small neighborhood known as Washington Heights, or simply “The Heights” to those familiar with the area. This neighborhood boasts many things but most notably the largest population of Dominicans in the United States. In this blog I will explore the past history that has shaped the neighborhood into what it is today, the current status of the neighborhood, and what the future outlook for the neighborhood is. When I moved to the United States from the Dominican Republic, Washington Heights was the first placed that I lived in. I only lived in the neighborhood for 2 years but I constantly visited my family and friends that lived (and still live there), as time passed I began to visit less and less. It was during this time that I began to notice many changes that were taking place. These changes haven’t just changed the physical landscape of the neighborhood but also the demographics.
