Remediation – Remix Assignment

Remediate – a re-presentation of one text into a different medium to target a different audience or show a different perspective. The original idea (thesis) remains the same.

Remix (Mashup) – Combine various texts (images, video, audio, etc) to create a new text with a new message.

Whether you choose Remix or Remediation, you will need to consider several elements:

Identify your audience

Decide how to reach your audience (which media)

What are the benefits and hindrances of the media you will use?

What is the purpose of the remix/remediation? Inform, persuade, request? Are you being ethical in citing your sources properly?

(What are the differences between the new audience and the original audience?)

Possible Choices

  • PSA(PublicServiceAnnouncement)
  • Video (present, drama, interview, argument, financial)
  • Podcast
  • Song
  • Blog
  • Photo essay (Research Essay Topic or autobiography, other possibility but you must check with me first)
  • Video Resume

(No PowerPoint)

Examples

2. Project

  • Have 3 modalities: image, text, sound. (Hard Print Photo Essay portfolio may have only image & text.)
  • Have a title.
  • Have credits for all items used.

Your project must be free standing so that I can receive in freely without me signing up or joining or paying.

  • Strictly stay within limits given: 3 minutes for presentations (video, Prezi, songs, around 35 images for a photo essay [75% with yourself for autobiography])

3. Post-project statement – Discuss how the media you used mediated or changed your message.

  • Reflect on the whole process. Did you make the right choices? What would you do differently next time? Did the audience react as you wanted them to
