Task

In the article “Why Fashion Needs to Be More Sustainable,” Renee Cho explains the impact of fashion on the climate crisis. For this assignment, you will write a critical analysis of her article.

This assignment is divided into two parts:

  • Part 1: reading, annotations, and comments
  • Part 2: essay writing

Part 1.

Please thoroughly read Cho’s article and make at least two annotations in the text and one comment on another student’s annotation. You should use Hypothes.is for both annotations and comments. (In case you have problems using Hypothes.is, you can watch a video tutorial here.) Your annotations shouldn’t be: “That’s a great sentence!” or “I love this part.” Instead, you should comment on an idea from Cho’s article and provide reasons for your opinion. Likewise, your comments on other students’ annotations should not only praise or criticize them, but develop their ideas.

These questions can help you formulate your opinion:

  • What is the most striking part of Cho’s article?
  • Which ideas do you support?
  • Which ideas do you find incomplete or poorly explained?
  • Is there any idea that you would add to her article?

The deadline for your annotations is Sunday, 19 October, at 11:59 p.m.

The deadline for your comments on students’ posts is Tuesday, 21 October, by 2:30 p.m.

Part 2.

Based on the ideas you explored in Part 1, you should write a critical analysis of the article. You should summarize the article (in the first paragraph), compose a meaningful thesis statement (at the end of the first paragraph), develop 3-5 body paragraphs (in which you will analyze the main ideas), and write a conclusion. To support your ideas, you should use the sources provided below, together with any of the texts we have analyzed in this course.
