For the expressive word project, I used the typeface Helvetica LT std in black condensed oblique. My design approach was to create something simple that could also capture the eyes. I used different sizes of the typeface to create the feeling of the word. I wanted to express the opposite feeling that the words meant to create oxymoron effect. For example with the word “quiet”, I made the wanted to make the words loud and bold. I tried used all caps and big lettering for certain letters like the “T” and “Q”.
This project made me really learn about how sizes and typefaces can really effect the feeling that a word gives off. I was surprise to know how much thought and time it really takes to put a simple word together, in order to really express the emotions of a word correctly. Everything from the sizing, the spacing of the letters and the negative space plays in huge role in the outcome of the emotions you’re trying to show your audience.
Sometimes a single word is more difficult to manage than a larger piece of information because you have to focus everything on very few elements.
