Interview Question

Where would you like to go in the world and stay for a year? Why?
I would like to stay in Hong Kong for a year. The reason why is because I feel like I’m not in touch with my Chinese roots enough. I was born in China and moved to the States when I was 4 years old. When I was really young and going to school, there were many times where I felt like I didn’t belong. I had different food, a different accent, and I looked completely different from everyone else. Even when I was at home or in my community it didn’t feel right. Most Chinese people are Mandarin speaking, I was not. My main language is Cantonese or Taishanese, a dialect very similar to Cantonese, I was able to speak Mandarin but there were many cultural differences between Mandarin and Cantonese people. I grew up learning both but I really want to go back and experience the Cantonese side of China for myself.

I asked someone, If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why? They responded with teleportation. He said the reason for it was because of how convenient it would be to travel to anywhere you want. Whether it was for daily commuting (I would love that,) or traveling for vacation. Honestly, I completely agree with him. Especially because we live in New York City, the amount of time we could save would be humongous. You know what they say, time is money.

  1. I also would like to go to Hong Kong in the future. My family originates from in Hong Kong, and I think it would be cool to see the place they lived.
