Analyzing Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact, an open-world action RPG developed and published by HoYoverse, is a free-to-play game with a gacha system called Wishes. Players choose between two siblings, Aether or Lumine, for simplicity we’ll focus on Aether as the central character. In the game, Aether embarks on a quest to find his lost sibling, Lumine, in the world of Teyvat. Along the way, he explores diverse regions, battles elemental creatures, and uncovers a rich, immersive storyline.

Genshin Impact commences with Aether and Lumine, travelers who found themselves in the world of Teyvat. Attempting to leave, they encounter an unknown god who calls herself the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles. She separates Lumine and places a seal on Aether, stripping him of his abilities. Now, Aether embarks on a journey through Teyvat’s seven nations to reunite with his sister.

Upon awakening he was all alone until he encounters Paimon, whom he saved two months earlier. Together, they venture to Mondstadt, the city of freedom, seeking answers and uncovering the mysteries of Teyvat.

(WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD)

Move One:

What is most interesting about this is the ongoing narrative and its rich lore within the world of Genshin Impact. The game’s story continues to unfold and promises to captivate players for years to come. The lore of Teyvat, with its intricate history, encompasses the fallen nation of Khaenri’ah, the Archon War, and the unique histories of each of the Seven Archons, including the God of Freedom, the God of Contracts, the God of Eternity, the God of Wisdom, the God of Justice, among others.

Move Two:

What stands out the most is the intricate interplay between Aether and Lumine’s fates within Genshin Impact. When they reunite, Lumine has assumed the role of leader of the Abyss Order, seeking vengeance against the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles. In contrast, Aether aligns himself with Teyvat’s forces, engaged in a larger battle against the Abyss Order. This dynamic serves as a central theme, embodying a profound conflict of light versus dark, good versus evil, adding depth and complexity to the game’s overarching narrative.

Move Three:

In Genshin Impact, there is a notable pattern of dissimilarity and contrast in Aether’s abilities compared to the norms of Teyvat. While most inhabitants require a vision granted by the gods to control elements, Aether, as an outsider to this world, lacks such a vision. This contrasts with the established rules of elemental control. Aether’s unique ability to command all elements through interaction with Statues of the Seven, in contrast to the limited elemental control even among the Archons, forms a significant anomaly within this pattern.

Move four:

Following their visit to the fourth nation, Sumeru, Aether receives valuable information from Nahida, the Dendro Archon, indicating the existence of other people from distant worlds known to the Fatui as “descenders.” This revelation raises thought-provoking queries. Given that other individuals have arrived from distant worlds, the pressing question emerges: do they share Aether’s power to manipulate all elements, just as he does? The question extends further to wonder whether the governing principles and exceptions that apply to Aether’s abilities also pertain to these newfound otherworldly descenders. This revelation not only deepens the enigma but also invites contemplation about the potential shared capabilities and complexities of these diverse characters within the expansive Genshin Impact universe.

Move Five:

The introduction of the other “descenders” in Genshin Impact version 3.2 raises numerous intriguing questions and new avenues for exploration.

Such as: Are the other “descenders” affiliated with the Abyss Order, and if so, what overarching purpose propels their actions? Do they, like Lumine, hold a stance against the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles, and what ultimate objectives do they pursue in their mission? A pressing question centers around how the Fatui came to acquire knowledge regarding these otherworldly descenders, and how come we have no idea of who or where they are? These unanswered questions persist at the time of writing this because as of now (or at least up to the part of the story I’m at), no new information came up about this.

As we await further story developments, we contemplate the potential role of the other descenders in our journey. Will they become valuable allies in our quest, or could they introduce yet another formidable opponent to our path?

  1. Wow, you see, I never played this game before, but the backstory for the game seems amazing and well thought out, which would drag players to play it. But I really like how you were able to piece together the backstory.

  2. I think you did a good and thorough analysis of Genshin Impact, and it is also pretty cool how you set up the post. I think the colorful boxes match the theme of a post about a game well.

  3. I’ve heard people talk about this game on social media like some of the people that I know but I never knew that it was so intricate and detailed. I think that the five moves of analysis really make us notice underlying facts or just how much character there is to some things, just like how you explained with the game.
