Field Analysis (GOODYEAR TIRES)

This Work of Art was located on the 12th floor of the Newman Vertical Campus. What makes this piece very interesting is it’s simple, and has a lot of coloring, which attracts the eye. The main components of this piece would include the company’s names, such as Good Year and their logo, and a visual background that shows the two tires and has the wording “pathfinder”, which tells us that it’s targeting adventurous individuals. The repetition of similarity occurs in the design of the art piece and has a consistent usage of the brand’s color palette. The binary oppositions are present in the art piece by telling us that even though the Pathfinder is for off-road, it could still be used as your regular daily vehicle, which shows a balance of durability. What I want to know about this image would be whether there was any competition in the tire business back then and what made these tires different.

Based on the image, Goodyear created this type of piece to target more audiences to buy their tires rather than buying tires from their audience. Based on the color schemes applied in this poster, the piece looks retro, hence this was created in the early 20th century. This image does remind me of something that I have seen before, which would be Formula One cars. Such as retro Ford vehicles. Based on my prior knowledge I believe that the company is targeting their American audience and saying that if it’s good on the tracks, it sure would be great on the road. The intended audience would be the men who had cars back then. What drew me to the artwork is that I love cars and this piece was perfect. The purpose of this piece would be to see more tires and have a booming business. The creator wanted to reach more and more audiences and tell them that they have the best tires and that they should buy Good Year tires. The historical circumstances in this case would be that more and more individuals started to buy cars, and more and more people wanted to travel. The arrangement of the piece would be perfect the color attracts the viewer, but the name later on creates a reassurance for the viewer saying that they make the best tires. The point of view of this piece would be that it gives a more modern look back then and that they do not only supply cars that could be used in urban cities. In this artwork, Logos is present in the sense that the artwork provides reasoning as to why buy the tires. For instance, the name itself has a huge influence on purchasing the tires. The image makes me want to learn more about the tires that they supply and understand what other types of products they are selling for different types of cars. No identity makes being present in the image.
