Memorial Memory

Hmm, a memorial that was memorable in some way to me. Well, I think that the iconic memorial built to honor the 16th U.S. president, which was the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, really stayed with me. There are some amazing qualities about the Lincoln Memorial. First off, it was built to honor the 16th U.S. president, which was Abraham Lincoln. The history really can be traced back to what he did, but he was seen as a hero who really ended the Civil War and fought against those in order to perverse the country as a whole. I mean, it was built as a classical tribute to Lincoln and the Union. Furthermore, the memorial itself and the way it was built also made it memorable to me, as the design, placement, and landscape of it are meant to impress and inspire those who visit it. The memorial also had very noticeable fluted doric columns that all added up to 36, which represented one for each of the 36 states that were part of the Union, giving off this big meaning of how these states still supported and stayed with Lincoln all the way to the end.

What else is famous about the Lincoln Memorial, as it was a key place where, in August 1963, it was also where Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps from the Lincoln Memorial. Not only is it a place where it can represent what Abraham Lincoln did and fought for freedom throughout the Civil War, but the speech can also be remembered here, giving this place this idea of a symbol of freedom, as this was legit the starting point of the enduring symbol of freedom was born from.

Lastly, it was a place where the 16th and maybe greatest president of the United States is honored at the Lincoln Memorial National Memorial, which also serves as a symbol of his conviction in the freedom and dignity of all people. Lincoln upheld America’s lofty ideals while simultaneously saving the Union. And adding on the famous “I Have a Dream” speech from Martin Luther King really gives this place a historical quality as a symbol of freedom, which makes it very memorable.

  1. I feel that this is one of the most iconic memorials in the entirety of America, because almost everyone knows about this one and wants to visit it in person when they go to DC. I know I did and it’s an amazing memorial.
