I’d say that thanksgiving is not a major holiday for my family and I, however I do enjoy it every year. I feel mostly connected because we are able to sit together as a family and enjoy a dinner when sometimes it is difficult to get everyone together. I will say there are some things that people may not like about Thanksgiving and the article Go Ahead. Eat Your Holiday Feelings talks about those difficulties of having family differences at the table. I wouldn’t say I exactly relate to it but I do very much understand the difficulty with family sometimes and especially now where it seems like politics is the basis of a lot of discussions. However I think that these differences are what make families unique because even though you may not agree with each other on a lot of things you still are there to celebrate together.
For me personally Thanksgiving means a time for getting the family together and I would say that most of my family would agree. Most years we try to invite people over to our house for Thanksgiving because most of the year people are out and busy so it is hard to make time to get together and have a nice dinner. Thanksgiving gives a reason to get together and enjoy eachothers company. As I get older I definitely want to continue to have family at my house for Thanksgiving because it makes us even more connected to each other.
I really like your response and it’s nice to see how other people celebrate this holiday/ the connection they have with it. For me personally, I really like this food and I really enjoy cooking with my family throughout the day.
I agree, sometimes the discussions shared could be a bit tense. It’s nice that you’re able to spend time with your family.
