One monument that I have visited was the statue of the liberty. The reasoning as to why it was very memorable to me would be that when I was 6 years old, my family and I came to the United States to seek a better life for us. Yet, I never got the chance to go to the statue of the liberty until I was 18 years old. I read books about the statue, Who gave the statue to the USA? Why it was a part of jersey? How it turned green?
I leaned so many things about the history of the statue. When I got the chance to go to the statue of the liberty for the first time in 12 years, I was very excited to finally see it in person. My grandfather when ever he would visit my family, he always wanted to go but never got the chance to visit the statue. in many language he would call the statue “freedom lady”, which is why it was very memorable to be. When I got the chance to see the statue I remembered what my grandfather always said about the statue and it was very symbolic in a sense that it enables me to be appointive of everything I have in this country such as my freedom, rights, and so much.
I can somewhat relate to what you said because although I’ve never been to the Statue of Liberty myself I’ve dropped off my aunt and cousins who recently immigrated to the U.S. so they can go visit the statue. It was nice to see them excited to tour downtown Manhattan and to see the statue.
I liked how you connected the memorial to your grandfather.
