What does Thanksgiving mean?

I don’t mind Thanksgiving, but for me, it’s just another regular day with my family. The only thing that is different is that it is the one time we actually eat turkey. Thanksgiving is supposed to be the day we all become thankful for something that happened in our life but in my opinion, we should be thankful every day – just being able to wake up and be alive.

Many people celebrate Thanksgiving differently. Some people call the holiday pointless and point out it’s just an American thing. Over the years I feel the meaning of Thanksgiving has changed. As I get older it means less and less. I realized that the tradition mainly consists of eating food and then heating left overs up the next day. Social media helped me realize that the only thing that is done is food being eaten and sometimes prayers. I probably will continue having Thanksgiving but maybe try to change the meaning a little.

  1. I’m sad to hear what Thanksgiving means to you because for me personally it’s a holiday that I get to enjoy spending time with family who I don’t always see.

  2. I 100% agree with your statement that we should be thankful everyday. I sometimes forget how fortunate we are to simply have a roof over our heads and water to drink while other kids don’t have water for days.

  3. I also agree that we should be thankful everyday that we’re still here and what we have because they are others who unfortunately don’t have what we have and we should always be grateful.

  4. I think everyone has their own way of celebrating Thanksgiving, just eating more food could be one way. I also agree we should be thankful every day.
