Memorial Memory

My senior year of high school I was pleased to take an African American Literature class where not only did I learn about the unspoken side of Black history, but carry those memories I made within the class. Our class had taken a trip to Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington D.C. Right across was the Lincoln Memorial where the iconic statute of the 11th president Abraham Lincoln. This was a very memorable to me because walking up the stairs that led to the statue, I felt a sense of power. A first generation daughter being able to experience the sensation of being one step closer to success. He stood his ground on the belief in freedom and dignity of all people. His powerful message impacted me in a way where I can still hope that the U.S. could possibly one day stand as a true democracy.
